Gift of Sight

Gift of Sight
Give the gift of better vision to a rural poor person in Tamil Nadu!
There is little access to healthcare in the rural villages we support. Preventable visual impairments can affect a persons health and ability to work. The gift of sight is a simple and effective way to help improve a persons eyesight and happiness.
We conduct eye screening camps throughout rural Tamil Nadu. The camps screen for cataracts, a common cause of loss of vision in elders, and other visual impairments. If a person is identified as having a cataract, our health project pays for their surgery, as well as transportation to the hospital, and accommodation and food whilst in care. For other visual impairments, glasses are provided.
Over the years, our charity has donated over 50,000 pairs of glasses to rural people in South India.
This gift will pay for an eye test, a cataract referral, and glasses for a rural poor person in Tamil Nadu.
More Ethical Gifts
In rural Tamil Nadu, women have little to no access to healthcare during and after their pregnancy. The postnatal period is vital to both mothers and newborn babes. Most maternal and infant deaths occur during this time and there can be missed opportunities to promote healthy behaviours. Salt of the Earth is committed to supporting mothers during this time.
This gift will fund a post-natal care kit that will be provided to a mother who is about to deliver a child. The kit contains items that will support the mother and baby during the six-to-eight-week post-natal period.
The pack contains; a baby mosquito net, a cotton towel, clothing, nappies, paracetamol drops, and iron drops for the baby. For the mother, the kit includes sanitary products, iron tonic and a health mix drink.
Our charity has been supporting vulnerable rural mothers in South India for decades.
Give an alternative gift and help a rural mother and their baby.
Give a family a source of food and income!
Since 1988, Salt of the Earth has planted over 350,000 trees in South India. Fruit trees not only help mitigate the effects of climate change, but offer an opportunity for poor families to earn an income. In the Indian climate, trees grow fast and can produce yields of fruits within their first few years of life.
Fruit trees were heavily requested by rural families during the recent visit to our projects in India. Help us meet the needs of the people we support.
The villages we work in are situated miles away from shops and markets and families live below the poverty line. Having a fruit tree at home means that villagers need to travel less, hence saving them precious finances and gives families access to nutritious food.
All donated fruit trees will be grown organically and SOTE village workers will support families with wastewater harvesting.
This gift will provide one fruit tree sapling to a rural poor family in Tamil Nadu, India.
