Salt of the Earth support rural development projects in India and run a multitude of programmes focusing on women’s empowerment, income generation, health, education and environmental preservation.

Our aim is and always has been to improve the life of the rural poor so they can lead meaningful and poverty free lives in the villages that they were born in. Without improvements to village life the harmful drift of the rural poor to big cities will continue. Community development underpins our work in order that the villages can become self sufficient. We have also responded quickly to unforeseen circumstances and natural disasters. We have provided emergency relief where it was needed during the extreme drought in Tamil Nadu in 1996, the Asian Tsunami in 2004 and during Cyclone Vardah in 2016.

We have raised £4 million so far and have directly impacted over half a million people’s lives. As we have continued to grow, we have been recognised by the Third Sector by winning the ‘Small Charity Big Achiever’ award during our 25th anniversary year.

But we are not stopping there and as we move into our fourth decade we want to continue our work to impact even more people’s lives and would love you to join us on that journey.
