Kitchen Garden starter kit

Kitchen Garden starter kit
Donate fencing and seeds to a rural poor family to set up their very own kitchen garden!
The villages we work in are situated miles away from shops and markets, which makes buying vegetables a challenge. When poor families do buy vegetables, the food they buy often contains harmful pesticides.
Kitchen gardens provide families with a sense of purpose, and most importantly, a steady supply of nutricious food.
Due to the success of SOTE kitchen gardens, the waiting list for families is growing quite significantly. Since Covid, families have come to appreciate the value in growing their own food, and we have many families eager to start growing food outside their homes.
This gift will pay for fencing mesh (to keep out goats!), poles, seeds, and soil to a rural poor family setting up a kitchen garden outside their home. Families will be taught how to use waste water and organic cultivation by our partners on the ground, and will be supported by trained village volunteers throughout the process.
In rural Tamil Nadu, women have little to no access to healthcare during and after their pregnancy. The postnatal period is vital to both mothers and newborn babes. Most maternal and infant deaths occur during this time and there can be missed opportunities to promote healthy behaviours. Salt of the Earth is committed to supporting mothers during this time.
This gift will fund a post-natal care kit that will be provided to a mother who is about to deliver a child. The kit contains items that will support the mother and baby during the six-to-eight-week post-natal period.
The pack contains; a baby mosquito net, a cotton towel, clothing, nappies, paracetamol drops, and iron drops for the baby. For the mother, the kit includes sanitary products, iron tonic and a health mix drink.
Our charity has been supporting vulnerable rural mothers in South India for decades.
Give an alternative gift and help a rural mother and their baby.
Give the give of health and support an elderly person in Tamil Nadu!
There is little access to healthcare in the rural villages we support. Our charity is committed to providing healthcare access and care to the elderly population. This gift will pay for an elder to have a full medical check-up.
In rural Tamil Nadu, elders who live alone or away from family can quickly become isolated and excluded from access to healthcare. The visit will be performed by a professional doctor at a village health camp. The check-up will include screening for cancer, diabetes, and blood pressure. If concerns arise, our doctor can prescribe suitable medicines and refer the patient for further testing.
We have been supporting elders in South India for over 30 years.
This gift will pay for a vulnerable elder in Tamil Nadu to receive a Health checkup.
