Give an Ethical Gift

Ethical gifts are items or services that are donated to rural poor communities in Tamil Nadu, India. When a supporter purchases a gift, they will be sent a certificate of donation that can be displayed in their own home or passed on to a loved one as an alternative to shop bought items. Our ethical gift scheme has been running for several years and has helped provide sources of food, health, livelihood interventions to some of India’s poorest communities.

Once a gift is purchased, we send a confirmation email with a printable certificate attached. Our partners then present gifts to rural poor people and families in South India.

Newborn Mother and Baby Care kit

Pavatharani, aged 27, lives in Perungavar village and is a member of a Women’s Self Help Group run by our partner's CRUSADE. Her husband, Ashok kumar, is 30 years old and is an unskilled worker on daily wages.

Pavatharani gave birth in late 2021 at a local Primary Health Centre. She was unable to get a government newborn kit as the hospital had run out of stock. Through an Ethical gift donation, CRUSADE was able to provide a specialised kit containing a baby mosquito net, cotton towels, cotton dresses and underwear, baby powder, oil, and soap for the baby. The kit also contained sanitary napkins for Pavatharani.

Pavatharani says that “ Our thatched hut was recently destroyed by heavy rain. We could not afford essential items for my baby whilst repairing our home. I was so happy to get a kit from CRUSADE. They knew I was struggling as I confided in my Self Help Group. The kit will make my baby comfortable and will protect them from Mosquitoes and insects”.
