Salt Of Earth's Annual Sale
On November 10th, we held our 22nd annual Salt Of The Earth fundraiser. Another incredible year, as we raised a record-breaking total of £2,136! These funds will tremendously help to support our work in Tamil Nadu, India.
All of us at SOTE lovingly refer to this event as ‘Celia’s Sale’ due to the event being organised by long-term supporter and Trustee, Celia Barden, who works hard to ensure the event is a huge success year after year! This year Celia outdid herself and we are extremely thankful for her efforts.
This year, in the bigger venue of Christchurch Clarendon Park, the doors opened at 10am and there was an impressive flow of people throughout the day looking to pick up some goodies.
Visitors wandered around stalls that sold a variety of ethically sourced and homemade goods. There were local, family owned and independent businesses, offering a wide range from greeting cards, organic jams and pickles, Indian jewellery, locally crafted glass and other gifts, fairly traded Indian clothes, speciality essences and crafts from India, Nepal, Cambodia and Myanmar.… there were even raspberry ripple flavoured, naturally flavoured, gluten-free marshmallows!
As always with SOTE events, the food provided was vegetarian, with some vegan and gluten-free options. SOTE supporters worked tirelessly in the kitchen all day to provide us all with delicious, autumnal soups, accompanied by bread and samosas. A wide range of yummy homemade cakes were also provided and proved extremely popular, by the time I got to the stall, most of them had been snapped up!
We had a wealth of interest at the Salt Of The Earth stall. There were many people reading about our partners, buying gifts and enquiring about how to get involved with the charity. It was a great opportunity for us meet and talk with long-term and new supporters.
It wouldn’t be a fundraiser without a raffle and this year’s bumper luxury hamper had people buying tickets by the page! Congratulations to Saskia who won a bottle of VSOP brandy, Moet champagne, a body shop gift set, panettone, cookies, stollen bits, creamy chocolate almonds and a classic box of roses.… we can’t help but wonder if she could resist opening it until Christmas.
We’ve had some excellent feedback from this year’s sale. One guest said ‘It was such a lovely atmosphere and great to meet so many other like-minded people!’. Everyone had a great time and picked themselves up some great presents for their Christmas shop, or just to treat themselves.
If you would like to trade at next year’s event, donate gifts/services or have an idea for your own fundraising event, please get in touch.
