Give The Gift Of Clean Water

We have added a new ethical gift to our range. Salt of the Earth and Sawyer have teamed up to provide a water filter that will changes lives.

Water is a scarce commodity in the Tamil Nadu villages that Salt of the Earth supports and none of it would pass European water cleanliness standards. Consequently water borne illnesses and diseases are a regular part of life and cause untold misery, reduced development and, sometimes, early death.

This water kit filters out all of the harmful bacteria that causes Cholera, Typhoid, Amoebic Dysentery, E. Coli, Streptococcus, Salmonella and other harmful diseases. It uses medical technology developed from kidney dialysis. It is very simple to use and maintain and should last for ten years or more. It can filter five gallons of unclean and contaminated water in under twenty minutes.

Salt of the Earth's partners in India have identified contaminated water as a highly significant problem for the communities they work with. They have identified those families most at risk of water borne diseases and have trained them to use and maintain the filter kits properly.

'How does it work?'

Sawyer water filters contain a high number of tiny ‘U’ shaped hollow fibre micro-tubes that trap contaminants while allowing decontaminated water to freely pass through at a high flow rate — eliminating the need to store water and reducing the possibility of water contamination after the filtration process.

Understandably there is a big waiting list of families who wish to use the kit in their own homes.

Your gift will provide a family with access to clean drinking water, a thing that we take for granted but is a rarity in the poor rural villages that our partners work in. It will be of great benefit to them for many years to come.

Our ethical gifts make the perfect presents to give to your friends, family or loved ones. By buying our special gifts, you are not only giving a gift to the recipient, but also directly to someone in India. The range includes the gift of trees, an eco-friendly cooking stove, a mother and newborn baby care kit, an eye test and a health check-up for an elder.
