Murray talks about his January Visit to India
Along with Janet and Helena our new Development Officer I visited all three of our partner organizations in January. It was a very rewarding and productive visit and all three of us were very impressed with what we saw and heard.
At MASARD it was very good to meet Dr John Fernandez and his long serving and experienced team and to take part in a foundation ceremony for the Regional Development Centre that we are funding. We also met with many of the sponsored children at the school that they go to and had a lively time with them.
We met with Women’s Self Help Groups at CRUSADE and we were very impressed with the confidence the women showed and their accomplishments. It was great fun to officially open a new bore well paid for by our Village Sponsorship Scheme. We also saw a mobile cancer screening camp in a village and heard from the women how thankful they were to have this facility.
Our last field visit was to CARE where we also sponsor children. It was a new experience for us to visit beggar communities and it became very obvious to us how deprived and difficult the lives of these people were and how dedicated the CARE staff were to stop the children taking part in begging as well as helping the adults to find alternative ways of earning money.
I returned from the trip with a renewed sense of purpose and energy. Meeting the three teams had been such an honour and pleasure and we were able to immediately strike up excellent working relationships. I left secure in the knowledge that we have first-class partners and that the money we raise is making important and significant changes to many thousands of deprived people.
